Bird’s Fish Bar brings Bowen’s foodies right to the water’s edge, where the boats are bobbing, the chips are hot and the catch couldn't be fresher.
The family behind Bird’s has been supplying Bowen with seafood since 1982, with the food always reeling visitors back in.
The pinnacle of their catch is the local wild-caught fish, unloaded daily before being cooked to order and traditionally wrapped in paper.
Take your pick.
From coral trout and red throat emperor to barramundi, Spanish mackerel, salmon mackerel and trevally, each can be served battered, crumbed or grilled, with the freshness of the sea still shining through.
For a full fisherman’s feast, the Fisherman’s Basket casts the net wider with Spanish mackerel, prawn cutlets, bug tail, squid rings, a seafood stick and crumbed reef scallop, all served with the iconic chips, lemon and tartare.
The smaller bites are just as tempting. Think house-made fish cakes, salt and pepper squid, local prawn cutlets, crumbed oysters and juicy bug tails.
If cutlery feels like too much work, grab a Spanish mackerel burger, sweet chili prawn wrap or fish sliders and dive straight in, no knife and fork required.
Then grab your feed and a cold drink, settle onto the outdoor deck and watch the boats move through Bowen Marina while enjoying their latest haul.
