Dr Hany Aziz is leading dental care that gives extra, drawing clients from all over North Queensland to his two clinics in Mackay and Moranbah, not just with his easy charm and vast skillset, but with a philosophy-driven, progressive approach to oral health.
“Oral health is actually the gate of our body,” Dr Hany explained. “That’s where we eat, drink, breathe. It’s deeply connected to our whole body health.” Dr Hany launched his business 13 years ago, having already been in the industry for 13 years before that.
“The clinic was born from the concept of providing more of a comprehensive and rounded service for better health and body as a whole – going beyond the dental,” he said.
The drive to see clients in their entirety, as whole beings with multifaceted needs, has driven the practice to offer varied services that are not available in your average dentist’s surgery; from highly sophisticated LASER machine and the only in the region, three dimensional X-ray to the most unique offering: a NovoTHOR Full body Red and Near Infrared Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMt), previously known as Low Level Laser Therapy machine; one of 13 in Australia, the only machine in operation between Brisbane and Cairns.
“They are very sophisticated, extremely pricey, and very unique in the technology and health benefits they deliver,” said Dr Hany. “I brought the technology to the clinic after my own experience with tennis elbow; both elbows were debilitating me leaving me unable to work. I tried a lot of alternative therapy- injections, amongst other things, but nothing worked until one day in Sydney.
“I jumped in one of these machines, and within 18 hours, I was able to carry my suitcase. I went from being unable to carry a water bottle to being able to carry my suitcase in 18 hours.”
The NovoTHOR machine delivers benefits by getting rid of the oxidative stress particles that cause pain and inflammation in the body, through targeted use of two wavelengths of red light. The therapy is also recorded as increasing energy, blood flow, collagen production, and relaxation. As well as targeting whole body healing, Dr Hany set up his clinic for clients of all ages, with an intention to deliver proactive, preventative care from year one of a child’s life. With a vibrant, fun waiting area and techniques that make kids smile and laugh in the chair, Dr Hany’s goal is to develop a generation that it’s not afraid of going to the dentist.
“It’s very welcoming. It’s less stressful for the younger ones, who love to come and visit; they think we’re friends who play with them, rather than clinicians,” he explained. “Older generations, even from age 20 or 30, tend to suffer from health problems like snoring, mouth breathing, grinding; a lot of which could have been prevented during the developmental stage.
That’s where the KIDS department came along, to help correct and improve kids’ development, so we can start to see reduction in suffering later on.” Dr Hany was born in Alexandria, Egypt, emigrating down-under approximately 23 years ago, where he started the hard grind of working through his studies, obtaining his qualifications and training in other clinics until he could open his own.
When asked what skills and values were instrumental to his success, Dr Hany highlighted the power of positive thinking – something that also has come in handy in his private life. “I had a head-on collision back in 2004. I’m very lucky to be talking to you now. Recovery took almost 10 months; it needed rehab, and three or four operations. During that time, I was always mindful to keep a positive mindset, because, as they say: what doesn’t kill you make you stronger. “I use a similar positivity to face the challenges of business, and the challenges of whatever else comes in life. I do refuse to play the victim role. I always want to be the victor.” Do you have pets? A dog. A cavoodle named Dexter, who works as a therapy dog for the practice. He’s a little black ball of fluff.
