Advanced Spinal Care

May 15, 2026

At My Chiropractor Mackay City

Helping people move better and live life to the fullest has long been at the heart of My Chiropractor Mackay City.

Owned and operated by Principal Chiropractor Dr Marti Harris and his wife Colleen Harris, the locally-loved clinic has continued to expand its services while investing in technology designed to improve outcomes for patients experiencing spinal and nerve related conditions.

One of the clinic’s most significant advancements is its spinal decompression therapy, with the practice operating two of only 17 Spine MT Core decompression machines currently available in Australia.

This advanced technology provides local patients with access to cutting-edge treatment for disc injuries and nerve compression, eliminating the need to travel to major metropolitan centres for care.

Patients attending the clinic have access to a wide range of services including spinal adjustments, spinal decompression therapy, dry needling, shockwave therapy, individualised rehabilitation programs and nutritional supplementation.

These treatments support people experiencing disc injuries, nerve related pain, arthritis, sporting injuries and those seeking alternatives to surgery or long-term medication.

The practice’s continued growth has also welcomed a new face to the team, with graduate chiropractor Dr Joly Albarracin recently joining the clinic.

Originally from Mackay, Dr Joly completed her studies in Brisbane at CQUniversity Australia, earning a Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) and a Master of Clinical Chiropractic before returning home to begin her professional career.

“Now that I’m back, it’s like I never left… and it’s great to be back home,” Dr Joly said.

She is currently undertaking a mentorship program within the clinic, working alongside Dr Marti and Dr Rod while meeting both new and existing patients.

Dr Marti said the team was thrilled to welcome her.

“We’re very excited to have Dr Joly come and join our chiropractor family… and we are very blessed to have someone who is as passionate about family healthcare as Dr Joly is.”

Backed by a highly trained and collaborative team, My Chiropractor Mackay City continues to evolve its strong community presence, offering patient-centred care focused on spinal decompression and improved function. Those experiencing ongoing spinal or nerve-related symptoms are encouraged to book an assessment to explore whether this approach may be suitable for their individual needs.

Supporting Independence, Strengthening Lives

May 15, 2026

At MADEC

For more than half a century, MADEC has been quietly shaping lives across Mackay through compassionate, community-based support.

As a charitable not-for-profit organisation, their mission is to help people live their best possible lives through meaningful assistance and opportunity, particularly through services delivered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Within the compassionate team at MADEC is NDIS Service Manager Edmund McMahon. With oversight over a wide range of services, Edmund leads a team committed to supporting individuals to live with dignity, independence and connection.

MADEC’s programs span several vital areas of support. Through supported independent living, individuals are able to live in their own homes while receiving tailored assistance, often with staff available around the clock.

Community engagement programs ensure people remain connected to everyday life, whether that involves attending appointments, shopping, participating in events or simply enjoying time out in the community.

The organisation also offers respite services for families who need temporary support, as well as short-term accommodation for individuals whose lives may have been suddenly disrupted through illness, accident or hospitalisation.

Edmund says the significance of the work lies in the impact it has on the lives of others.

“Supporting vulnerable individuals to live as fulfilling and complete lives as they possibly can is incredibly powerful.”

He also recognises that each individual brings their own aspirations, interests and ambitions.

“Everyone has their own goals and interests in life. Our role at MADEC is to support people and continue to help them reach those goals.”

The work itself often requires extraordinary levels of care and responsibility. Support workers assist with mobility, medications and daily routines that many people take for granted.

“Sometimes we’re supporting people with medications, mobility, or even helping them eat – we really are there to help them in anyway we can.”

Drawing on the history of MADEC, the organisation was founded in the region more than fifty years ago, and now in 2026, it continues to serve the same community that shaped it.

“MADEC has been part of Mackay for more than half a century. Our roots, our staff and the people we support are all part of this community,” Edmund said.

“We approach support in many ways like a family, while still maintaining professional boundaries.”

Rather than isolating individuals from the wider community, the organisation seeks to ensure they remain an active part of it.

“We deliberately support our clients in ways that allow them to simply live as members of the community… because that’s exactly what they are, and it’s what they deserve.”

As a parent of a child living with a disability, the standard Edmund sets within his work is one that goes beyond the walls of the organisation.

“If I had a family member needing support, I would want them to be somewhere I trust… and so that’s the standard I, and all of us here at MADEC, work toward every day.”

It is this belief that fuels Edmund’s passion for the sector and the team he leads. Disability support, he believes, offers a rare opportunity to build a career defined by purpose.

“If you want a meaningful career where you’re genuinely making a difference in people’s lives, the community services sector is the place to be.”

And when asked to describe himself, Edmund offers three words that capture both his own outlook and the spirit of the organisation he represents.

“Passionate, committed and genuine.”

Fitness Cartel Mackay – Inspiring A Healthier YOU!

A New Era Of Wellness For Mackay

Since opening its doors on 27 November, 2025, Fitness Cartel Mackay has wasted no time making its mark on the region’s health and fitness landscape.

What arrived as a highly anticipated gym has quickly grown into something much bigger. It is a powerhouse facility where training, recovery and lifestyle come together in style. Since its inception, the centre has become a one-stop-shop for Mackay residents chasing serious energy, discipline and a better version of themselves.

The opening signalled that Mackay was ready for something different. Membership numbers surged early and the response from the community was immediate. Word spread quickly about the scale of the facility, the quality of the equipment and the arrival of a fully integrated Wellness Centre that lifted the local standard well beyond tradition gyms.

Fitness Cartel Mackay was built with a clear purpose. From first time gym members to high level athletes, the facility provides the tools to train hard, recover properly and help you keep coming back stronger. It has introduced a level of fitness infrastructure rarely seen in regional Australia and Mackay has embraced it whole-heartedly.

A Facility Built To Perform

Walk through the doors and the scale of the operation speaks for itself.

The gym floor carries more than 500 pieces of strength and cardio equipment alongside dedicated zones for heavy lifting, functional movement and high intensity training. The space is designed for people who want to work. There is more than enough room to push limits, build strength and move with purpose.

Across multiple studios, a schedule of group fitness classes keeps the energy high, with virtual trainers helping you achieve your goals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Cycling sessions, yoga, Pilates and strength classes run across the day, allowing members to mix training styles and keep their routines fresh.

Then there is the Wellness Centre.

This space has become one of the defining features of Fitness Cartel Mackay. It introduces recovery tools that until recently were mostly seen in elite sporting environments.

Cold plunge pools, traditional saunas, compression therapy, red light therapy and massage chairs sit within a recovery space designed to restore both body and mind.

Because training is only half the equation. Recovery is where progress is locked in.

The facility also recognises that modern life demands flexibility. Kids Cartel childcare allows parents to train while their children are cared for nearby. The café and lounge areas provide space to sit, recharge and connect with others in the community.

Supporting Elite Performance

The quality of the facility has not gone unnoticed by the sporting world.

When the North Queensland Cowboys travelled to Mackay ahead of a major trial match, the squad turned to the Fitness Cartel Wellness Centre as part of their recovery preparation.

Players cycled through contrast therapy pools, compression recovery and sauna sessions as they prepared their bodies for the demands of game day. The recovery process focused on improving circulation, easing muscle fatigue and ensuring players stepped onto the field in peak condition.

Professional athletes who have access to the best sporting facilities in the country chose to prepare here. It reinforced what many members had already discovered.

Mackay now has a facility capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with major metropolitan gyms.

Investing In Workplace Wellbeing

Beyond individual fitness, another major opportunity is emerging through Fitness Cartel Mackay’s Corporate Membership program.

Across Australia, businesses are starting to recognise that the health of their workforce is closely tied to productivity, culture and long-term performance.

Workplaces demand focus, resilience and energy. When employees are carrying stress or fatigue, those qualities quickly begin to erode.

Corporate memberships offer businesses a direct way to support their teams by providing access to a structured fitness and recovery environment.

Exercise improves mental clarity. It sharpens concentration. It provides a healthy outlet for pressure that can otherwise build up across demanding work weeks.

When staff have the chance to train regularly and recover properly, the difference often shows across the entire workplace.

• Morale lifts.

• Communication improves.

• Absenteeism drops.

• Productivity strengthens.

Corporate memberships may also be tax deductible as a business expense, adding a practical financial incentive for employers looking to invest in their teams.

Group fitness classes provide structure for those who enjoy training alongside others, while the Wellness Centre adds an important recovery component rarely found in traditional workplace wellbeing programs.

Mackay’s First Alcohol Free Dance Experience

Fitness Cartel Mackay is not slowing down.

In the coming months, the gym will transform into a vibrant dance space where the music is loud, the lights are alive and the focus is on movement and connection rather than alcohol. Families, teenagers, parents and adults will all be able to step onto the floor and take part.

Scheduled to begin in July, the weekly dance parties will offer Mackay residents a fresh social outlet, a place to enjoy the music, burn off energy and still wake up clear headed the next morning.

More details are set to drop soon, so stay tuned to Fitness Cartel Mackay’s socials as the countdown to this all-ages, alcohol-free dance experience begins.

For a city that has already embraced Fitness Cartel with such enthusiasm, this is set to become a high-energy hub where fitness, community and celebration collide.

Watch this space!

Compassionate Support

With Elegance Lymphatic Care

“At Elegance Lymphatic Care, we are passionate about supporting women throughout every stage of pregnancy, birth, and recovery through specialised lymphatic and compression therapies designed to improve comfort, circulation, and overall wellbeing.

“Pregnancy places significant demands on the body and can often lead to swelling, fluid retention, pelvic pressure, heaviness, varicose veins, and discomfort through the abdomen and vulval region. Many women also experience vulval varicosities, commonly referred to as “babola,” which can become painful and debilitating during pregnancy. Our specialised lymphatic drainage treatments are designed to gently support the body’s natural lymphatic and circulatory systems, helping to reduce swelling, congestion, pressure, and discomfort while promoting relaxation and improved mobility.

“We also provide professional fitting and supply of pregnancy-related compression garments, including both custom-made and off-the-shelf options. These garments can assist with swelling, circulation concerns, pelvic discomfort, and supporting and lifting the growing belly to reduce pressure through the pelvis, lower back, and vulval region.

“Neuromuscular taping is another therapy we incorporate to support posture, abdominal support, fluid movement, and muscular strain without restricting mobility.

“Our goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-informed care that helps women feel supported, comfortable, and empowered throughout their pregnancy journey.”

Raising The Standard & Giving Extra

May 15, 2026

With Dr Hany Aziz (Principal Dentist) from Oral Health & Beyond Collective: DentalCareXtra, KIDS, Snoring Laser Care & NovoGen

Dr Hany Aziz is leading dental care that gives extra, drawing clients from all over North Queensland to his two clinics in Mackay and Moranbah, not just with his easy charm and vast skillset, but with a philosophy-driven, progressive approach to oral health.

“Oral health is actually the gate of our body,” Dr Hany explained. “That’s where we eat, drink, breathe. It’s deeply connected to our whole body health.” Dr Hany launched his business 13 years ago, having already been in the industry for 13 years before that.

“The clinic was born from the concept of providing more of a comprehensive and rounded service for better health and body as a whole – going beyond the dental,” he said.

The drive to see clients in their entirety, as whole beings with multifaceted needs, has driven the practice to offer varied services that are not available in your average dentist’s surgery; from highly sophisticated LASER machine and the only in the region, three dimensional X-ray to the most unique offering: a NovoTHOR  Full body Red and Near Infrared Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMt), previously known as Low Level Laser Therapy machine; one of 13 in Australia, the only machine in operation between Brisbane and Cairns.

“They are very sophisticated, extremely pricey, and very unique in the technology and health benefits they deliver,” said Dr Hany. “I brought the technology to the clinic after my own experience with tennis elbow; both elbows were debilitating me leaving me unable to work. I tried a lot of alternative therapy- injections, amongst other things, but nothing worked until one day in Sydney.

“I jumped in one of these machines, and within 18 hours, I was able to carry my suitcase. I went from being unable to carry a water bottle to being able to carry my suitcase in 18 hours.”

The NovoTHOR machine delivers benefits by getting rid of the oxidative stress particles that cause pain and inflammation in the body, through targeted use of two wavelengths of red light. The therapy is also recorded as increasing energy, blood flow, collagen production, and relaxation. As well as targeting whole body healing, Dr Hany set up his clinic for clients of all ages, with an intention to deliver proactive, preventative care from year one of a child’s life. With a vibrant, fun waiting area and techniques that make kids smile and laugh in the chair, Dr Hany’s goal is to develop a generation that it’s not afraid of going to the dentist.

“It’s very welcoming. It’s less stressful for the younger ones, who love to come and visit; they think we’re friends who play with them, rather than clinicians,” he explained. “Older generations, even from age 20 or 30, tend to suffer from health problems like snoring, mouth breathing, grinding; a lot of which could have been prevented during the developmental stage.

That’s where the KIDS department came along, to help correct and improve kids’ development, so we can start to see reduction in suffering later on.” Dr Hany was born in Alexandria, Egypt, emigrating down-under approximately 23 years ago, where he started the hard grind of working through his studies, obtaining his qualifications and training in other clinics until he could open his own.

When asked what skills and values were instrumental to his success, Dr Hany highlighted the power of positive thinking – something that also has come in handy in his private life. “I had a head-on collision back in 2004. I’m very lucky to be talking to you now. Recovery took almost 10 months; it needed rehab, and three or four operations. During that time, I was always mindful to keep a positive mindset, because, as they say: what doesn’t kill you make you stronger. “I use a similar positivity to face the challenges of business, and the challenges of whatever else comes in life. I do refuse to play the victim role. I always want to be the victor.” Do you have pets? A dog. A cavoodle named Dexter, who works as a therapy dog for the practice. He’s a little black ball of fluff. Describe yourself in 3 words: Proactive, Progressive, Sophisticated dentalcarextra.com.au

Over 30 years, Dr Dee’s Homeopathic Clinic has evolved and grown as she dedicated her life to delving deeper into knowledge, and found freedom through her own remedies.
